JAMB says server did not crash, UTME results are intact

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says its server did not crash and results of candidates who participated in its 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME) are intact.

JAMB logo, UTME candidates in the examinationThe board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin,  gave the assurance in an interview with journalists on Wednesday in Lagos.
Benjamin reacted to speculations in some quarters that the board issued a press statement, explaining that the release of the UTME results was being delayed because its server crashed and that candidates should prepare for another examination.
”We want to distance ourselves from such malicious and wicked rumours by fraudulent persons, as there is no truth in them.
”We did not issue any press statement concerning crashing of the server. All these are antics of desperate persons trying to cause panic and confusion among candidates and the general public.
”We are not going to succumb to such rumours as we remain focused on ensuring that we achieve what we have set out to do.
”After the examination, the board embarked on screening to determine any form of examination malpractice and infractions by both candidates and examination centres. This is what has been delaying the release of the results,” he told newsmen.
The official said that the board had almost completed the screening and would soon release results of deserving candidates.
”What we are trying to do is to ensure that innocent persons are not punished,  but I can assure you that we are going to punish all those found wanting,” he said.
Benjamin appealed to Nigerians to believe in the board’s ability to rid  of what he described as ‘criminal elements’
According to him, Nigerians should appreciate what the board is doing as it is for the benefit of the Nigerian child and the national large.
”We want to correct so many things might have been taken for granted in the past.
”When fraudulent individuals get away with their mischievous acts, it is because the society is in a hurry to run to a conclusion, not mindful of the fact that certain acts should be pursued painstakingly to a logical conclusion.
”I want to let you know that the board has secured the conviction of some  UTME fraud suspects in Kebbi.
”Therefore, we equally want to seize this opportunity to thank the judiciary for doing a good job, as we urge others to key into what has been achieved in Kebbi in an effort to get rid of fraudulent persons and sanitise the system,” he said.
Benjamin urged candidates to be calm and wait for their results to be released soon.
”I want to urge candidates not to entertain any fear. Their results are intact,” he said.

Workers in Cross River State have protested the payment of May salaries on the first day of the month by Governor Ben Ayade, as part of the Workers’ Day celebrations.

Ayade has made it a habit of being the first to pay salaries in the country and has in each of the last three years paid May salaries on the first day of the month.

Ondo’ll pay new minimum wage, says Akeredolu

Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Wednesday confirmed the readiness of his administration to pay the new  minimum wage as approved by law.

Akeredolu, Governor Ondo stateThe governor said his administration will continue to keep its promise to the workers and people of the state by making their welfare directive principles of state policy.
The governor, who spoke at the 2019 May Day celebration held at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade, Igbatoro Road, Akure, the state capital, saluted the workers for their cooperation since the inception of his administration.
The governor also appreciated the union for the understanding displayed at difficult moment while calling on the workers to rededicate themselves to the service of their fatherland.
He said: “It is expected, therefore, that all those who serve diligently should also be catered for during and, more importantly, after they must have disengaged from public service.
“On our part, this Administration continues to keep its promises to the workers and people of the State that their welfare shall be the directive principles of state policy. We have been able to strike the delicate balance in discharging this duty to both the workers and the people, within the available resources.
“Not only have we been able to manage the severely limited funds, our Administration, with your commitment, has just been rated number one in Internally Generated Revenue rating in the country by the Public Bureau of Statistics.
“We believe that the most effective way to ameliorate the poor living conditions of our people is to abridge the infrastructural deficit in the State.
“Unless and until the hinterlands, upon which our aspiration towards self-sufficiency in food production is anchored, are linked to the urban centres, in a design which promotes cooperation on socio-economic fronts, poverty will not be tackled effectively.
“The provision of social amenities such as water, as exemplified by the drive of the Government to reach all the nooks and crannies of the State, as well as the recent supply of medical equipment to all the facilities in the 18 Local Governments, attune with our determination to make life more meaningful for our people.”
Governor Akeredolu recalled that his government had embarked on massive road construction projects in the three senatorial districts in the state. Besides, he added his administration equally renovated over 700 state-owned primary and secondary schools across the state.
According to him, the state government will support any programme which enhances capacity building for teachers in the state public schools.
He said because real prosperity lied in the production of goods and services by any society,  his government had started the revitalization of the moribund production sector through the promising project of Ore Industrial Hub.
The governor said: “Creating an atmosphere which promotes economic activities is a priority of this government. The Deep Sea Port project at Araromi will become a reality soon. Our state will be the desired destination for serious investors and tourists.
“This Administration has not reneged on any of its promises since inception. We will continue to treat the welfare of civil servants as a priority. “We have paid salaries of workers till date.We acknowledge the outstanding 1 month salary from the 7 months arrears inherited from the previous Government. We are obliged to offset this entitlement and other legitimate earnings as soon as the financial situation improves. We crave your patience and understanding in this regard.”

SPEECH BY THE GOVERNOR, STATE OF OSUN, MR. ADEGBOYEGA OYETOLA, AT THE WORKERS’ DAY CELEBRATION HELD IN OSOGBO ON MAY 1, 2019

It is a great delight for me to attend the first Workers’ Day celebration as Governor of The State of Osun.

Workers’ Day is an annual event dedicated to honouring and celebrating workers. It also offers an opportunity for the workforce, which is the engine room of the government and of other employers of labour, to review, reflect and project into the future, to deliver credible services.

Since the creation of The State of Osun in 1991, workers have given a good account of themselves as a formidable and competitive entity, winning laurels and milestones and offering services that have promoted the State as a force to be reckoned with in the comity of States in the nation.

The $20 million won by the State at the Federal Government-facilitated Save A Million Lives Programme of the World Bank, having come second in the contest among states of the Federation, stands as a signpost and a metaphor for the efficiency and illustrious contributions of workers to the development of the State.

It is gratifying to note that the workers of the State of Osun are a light in the paradigm shift from the era of confrontation and aluta, which are the hangovers of colonialism and military dictatorship, to a period of rigorous dialogue and positive engagement. The workers’ Unions have proudly achieved this without compromising the interests of their members.

In this parlous economic climate, workers in this state have demonstrated understanding, maturity and commitment. They have offered invaluable counsel on the way out of the wood in addition to serving relentlessly.

Osun workers have accepted the agenda of this Administration, supporting us with crucial advice on the strategies for accomplishing our goals for the good of our people.

For these and more, I commend and celebrate the workers for a display of unparalleled commitment, industry and patriotism that are in tandem with the 21st Century competitive world.

The conduct and character of workers have further given vent to the reputation of The State of Osun as one of the most peaceful states in the nation.

My Administration is people and worker oriented. Indeed, people and workers are at the centre of all we do. In all the sectors of the State’s economy, we have deliberately enforced a policy of equitable distribution of resources and services to achieve sustainable and competitive development.

In the health sector, we are revitalizing nine General Hospitals and 332 health centres, one per ward, to ensure quality and adequate healthcare. The component of this intervention includes rehabilitation of the buildings, provision of relevant drugs and equipment as well as training and re-training of staff.

You will all recall that during the presentation of the Budget 2019 speech to the House of Assembly last December, I promised the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as a way of delivering adequate healthcare for all. We shall commence the implementation this month.

Government will start contributing its counterpart funds while also taking care of the vulnerable in the State. I urge the leadership of Labour to urgently play its own part so that, together, we shall achieve the objective of delivering quality and adequate healthcare to our people.

We are also rehabilitating township and rural roads as a deliberate effort to improve road network and open up rural roads to improve infrastructure and boost the economy.

As an Administration, we are creatively and strategically working on diversifying our economy by joining forces with development partners to boost agriculture, mining and other sectors. We are also planning to hold an Economic Summit very soon as a mechanism for delivering a workable template for the State’s economic recovery and stability.

We are engaging in all these initiatives to deliver the good life to our workers and the people. By the time all these interventions are completed, the State shall have moved away from dependence on Federation Account allocation to a self-sufficient entity envisaged by our founding fathers.

This Administration is committed to the provision of quality education for our young ones. We are sustaining the Free Feeding Programme, while also rehabilitating building and providing equipment for schools across the State so that we can give better education to our children. We are holding our children by the hand in our efforts to deliver sustainable prosperity and development to the State.

Permit me, distinguished State of Osun workers, to ask that you continue to provide a peaceful environment, cooperation and support in the journey ahead. We shall continue to make progress as a State when we employ dialogue and carry the kit of Omoluabi ethos as tools of engagement at all times.

The success of the above-listed development plans and strategies is highly dependent on the cooperation and support of workers. The plans shall witness tremendous success when, as workers, you own them and run with them. I, therefore, appeal to you all to work with government so that we shall collectively lift our State to higher heights.

It is the resolve of this Administration to give improved welfare to workers from time to time. The little we have been able to provide during this period of economic crunch is proof that we shall sustain the tempo as our plans bear fruits and the fortune of the State continues to look up.

This year’s May Day is a toast to courage, patriotism, understanding, creativity and support in honour of our dear solution-seeking workers. I would like to appreciate the leadership of workers’ Unions across the State for their tremendous guidance and direction, which have stood our dear State out as a Land of Peace and a State of the Virtuous. I would also like to thank all the workers for demonstrating understanding and unequalled following.

As we celebrate your day this year, distinguished workers, I urge you to approach your jobs with renewed vigour and commitment, and embrace the government agenda for development.

I wish you all a successful Workers’ Day and best of luck as you strive to contribute your best to the development of the State.

Solidarity forever

MAY is Here ! IMPROVE ON YOUR LIFE By Comrade Awoko

How many times have you told yourself that you are going to improve your life, but ended doing nothing? How many times have been dissatisfied with some aspects of your life and vowed to change them, but did not follow through with your decision?

What is holding you back, preventing you from improving your life? It is lack of enthusiasm, motivation, desire, determination, willpower and discipline. Do you, like many others, promise yourself to make changes in your life, especially at the beginning of a New Year? This also happens after a reading a book or an article about someone, who transformed his life or achieved great success. However, the desire to make improvements does not last long, and the enthusiasm quickly wanes away.

Is it possible to make positive changes? Yes, it is certainly possible, but you have to make a plan, follow certain strategies and techniques, and make some inner changes in your viewpoint and in the manner of your thinking.

How to Improve Your Life in 12 Steps Decide want to improve. Be specific. Sit down where you can be alone and undisturbed, and write down a list of goals. Next, analyze what you wrote, to find out whether you really want to achieve the items on your list. You will most probably discover that you don’t really want to achieve some of them. Strike off the one you don’t really want.

2.Copy on another piece of paper, the items left in your list, which you really want to achieve. Write them down in the order of importance.

Think about a plan, how you can make them come true. Be as practical as possible, using your Education, common sense, intuition, imagination and creativity.

Come up with something, a first step, even if it is quite minor, which you can do right now, such as buying a book with information about your goal, attending a lecture, listening to motivating CDs, looking for courses or workshops that can help you improve your life, or any other step that will take you closer to achieving your goal.

Read inspiring books and articles about people who have attained success in the area of your choice. This will enhance your enthusiasm and motivation.

Visualize the improvements you want to bring about. See them as already real and true. Make the mental pictures vivid and alive.

Keep your desire, enthusiasm and motivation alive, by thinking often how you would like your life to look like. Also, think often about the benefits and advantages you will gain by improving your life, circumstances, your financial condition, health, or anything else.

Repeat affirmations . They will constantly remind you of your goals, and program your subconscious mind to assist you in achieving them.

Don’t let anything deter you from improving your life. Don’t give in if there are obstacles, delays or difficulties. Be determined to do what you have decided to do, no matter how much time or effort it takes. This is the way successful people act.

Developing strong willpower and self-discipline will endow you with the power to overcome any obstacle and difficulty and make you persistent in your efforts. These two skills, can be developed through special techniques and exercises.

Have faith in yourself and in your ability to improve your life, your financial condition, your habits and your behavior.

Be willing and open to accept change. Don’t be passive, waiting for improvement to enter your life without doing anything.Take action, grab opportunities, and be willing to change your habits and lifestyle.

Remember, making resolutions is not enough; you need to do something about them. If you made resolutions in the past, but did not follow them through, it was because you were not serious enough and your desire was not strong enough. You can improve your life on all levels, but you need to follow a plan, keep up your enthusiasm, desire and motivation, and not give in, when facing difficulties and obstacles. It might take some time and effort to improve your life, but this is worthwhile and rewarding goal.

Make hay while the sun shines and don’t let the noise of others hinder your own inner voice.

Welcome to May the fifth month of the year.
